Lightning and winds caused quite a few outages for the Trinity Valley Electric Cooperative service area in April, but the most damaging storms formed farther east.

Easter Sunday storms caused lengthy outages for members of Wood County Electric Cooperative, based in Quitman, and Upshur Rural Electric Cooperative in Gilmer.

Once all of TVEC’s outages were restored, several of our lineman took a brief rest and headed east to help repair the damage in those two areas.

“Cooperation among cooperatives is one of our founding principles. With the 2020 spring storms, WCEC not only sent mutual aid crews to other co-ops, but our co-op was the beneficiary, said WCEC General Manager/CEO Trey Teaff. “In particular, crews from Trinity Valley EC assisted us after a surprisingly strong storm caused a large amount of damage to our system. The help we received gave us the ability to restore service much quicker than we would have been able to on our own. We are grateful to the crews from TVEC that helped us out, and we will gladly return the favor, should the need ever arise.”

Cooperative Principle No. 6— Cooperation Among Cooperatives—means that no co-op stands alone in a time of crisis. TVEC has been on the other end of this support, most recently after the tornado outbreak in 2017.

TVEC lineworkers making the trip to help included Paul Camacho, Lance Robison, Damian Gwin, Casey Bagwell, Brady Hardy, Carson Handlin, Payden Green, Logan Allen, Andrew Smith, Adrian Patino, Mack Brewer, Hector Zarate, Mauricio Robles, Bryan Hicks, Chance Franks and Troy Tullos.
