Operation Round Up Winners
MEC program helps community members and organizations

Medina Electric Cooperative’s Operation Round Up Program has been making a difference in the lives of community members since 2006. The ORU committee, made up of cooperative members, meets quarterly to review applications and carefully make donation decisions. They met in early March to look over applications submitted in February and discuss emergency awards made in December and January.

The committee decided to provide the following individuals and families with grants for help after house fires and to help with medical expenses and for home winterization.

Maggie and Jason Alvarez of Hondo—$1,000
Cindy Balderrama of Devine—$1,500
Sharon and Nathan Grissom of Rio Medina—$1,000
Amanda Hammett of San Isidro—$1,000
Jeffery and Robyn Pope of Moore—$1,000

Operation Round Up is funded by Medina EC members who choose to have their monthly electric bills rounded up to the next dollar. The spare change is then added to the ORU fund to help community members in need. ORU has helped families pay medical bills, receive therapies, repair homes and rebuild after house fires.

If you or someone you know needs financial help, apply for a donation from Operation Round Up. Applicants do not need to be Medina EC members but must live in one of the 17 counties served by the cooperative. The remaining deadlines for 2021 are May 7, August 6 and November 5. The application and information are available at MedinaEC.org/ORU.
