There are not many foods more American than peanut butter and pie—why not combine the two?
Peanuts or peanut butter can give your pie that little “extra something” so each indulgent bite takes you back to nostalgic childhood memories, reminding you of home.
We all know peanuts can be roasted and served as a snack, but what other dishes can this little nut contribute to? We’re set to find out how peanuts can add depth to any dish in this month’s “Perfect Pies” recipe contest!
Peanuts are a versatile ingredient that can be used to add an extra crunch from the peanuts themselves or the sweet and hearty flavor of peanut butter. Either way, peanuts (and peanut products) are a perfect ingredient that you can use in almost any way imaginable.
Peanuts boast a taste the size of Texas and are part of a healthy diet. Peanuts are naturally cholesterol-free, packed with protein—the most of any nut—have zero trans-fat, and contain plenty of essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Plus, they help reduce your risk of obesity, diabetes, cancers and other diseases.
Whether you’re looking to use whole peanuts in a spicy pasta dish or add peanut butter to your favorite dessert recipe, you’ll be a part of keeping an American tradition alive by using peanuts the next time you’re looking for that perfect ingredient.

Peanuts: We’re not just talking about the famous Goobers (though, we love those too!)–there are actually four peanut varieties and all can be found here in the great state of Texas! Try incorporating one of these tasty (and healthy) nuts in your recipe:
• Runner peanuts boast a uniform kernel size that allows for even roasting and is often used for peanut butter.
• Spanish peanuts have smaller kernels and are used for a variety of cuisines.
• Valencia peanuts are typically the sweetest of all market types. Usually roasted and sold in-shell, it’s also popular for all-natural peanut butter.
• Virginia peanuts are often referred to as the “ball-park” peanut. With a large kernel size, it’s commonly used as a gourmet snack.
Peanut Butter: Long gone are the days of choosing between creamy or crunchy. Now you can find many that come in a sweet or savory variety; flavors include dark chocolate, banana, maple, onion, parsley and Thai ginger. No matter what flavor you choose, all peanut butters are naturally trans-fat and cholesterol-free. Peanut butter is great on its own or as a wonderful addition to a variety of recipes — from your silver screen snack to desserts to beverages or whatever your culinary mind can cook up!
Peanut Flour: This fat-free, gluten-free flour gives a boost to a variety of food items. It’s a great thickener for soups, a flavorful and aromatic ingredient for a variety of breads and pastries, as well as a creative and flavorful coating for meats, fish and other center of the plate proteins.
Refined Peanut Oil: Looking to fry up your movie snack this month? Turn to peanut oil as a pleasant flavor enhancement. Plus, you won’t feel so guilty since this oil is naturally trans-fat and allergen-free and has no cholesterol. It does not absorb food flavors and has a high smoke point of 450°F, making it very durable.
Aromatic Roasted Peanut Oil (Unrefined): This oil retains a rich, golden color and is a flavorful alternative to other first processing oils. Naturally trans-fat and cholesterol-free, it is a great choice for salad dressings, roasting vegetables and more.
