Texian Market Days is a family-friendly living history festival that features hands-on activities, Texas Revolution and Civil War camps and battle re-enactments, historic home tours, archeological digs, food and live entertainment. Held annually on the fourth weekend in October, Texian Market Days offers families an affordable and educational weekend immersed in Texas history.

2011 German Heritage Festival

Beginning with one Oompah band on a flat-bed trailer 11 years ago in Old Town Tomball, this festival has become an annual tradition in Tomball—and one of the best music/street festivals in Texas. Every year during the last weekend in March, festival-goers break out their Lederhosen and Dirndls “Go German” for the area's largest festival celebrating the heritage of the original German families that settled this area beginning in about 1840. In other words, in the case of German heritage there is much to celebrate in this part of Texas! The 11th Annual Tomball German Heritage Festival will be March 25, 26 and 27, 2011, located on the Old Downtown Streets of Tomball Texas near 201 S. Elm Street, Main Street (FM 2920), and Market Street. It is a Music/Street festival celebrating German and ethnic heritage with four stages of live music entertainment “happy music for happy people”, ethnic and festival food, beer, wine, 150 street vendors, all kinds of German souvenirs and clothing, arts crafts, antiques, the Heritage Center, German church service, fireworks, a carnival, pony rides, a petting zoo, strolling music makers, street performers and much, much more! Like Oktoberfest in March, it's huge fun for the whole family! You do not have to be German to enjoy this festival. It is fun for everyone, and there is no admission or parking fees. The Carnival opens Thursday evening March 24th with a special price for the “all you can ride” armband, and is located at the corner of Main and Cherry. On Friday 25th at 6pm till 10pm the music begins featuring Bluegrass Friday Night, Alpenfest, Chris Rybak, Walburg Boys, Tuba Meisters, Round Top Brass Band, Das Ist Lustig, Terry Cavanaugh, Kenny James, JungeMeisters, German Folk Dancers Rathkamp, de Texas KlopenDansers (Dutch), Scandinavian Folk Dancers, Aggie Wranglers, Ultimate Cloggers, Tomball Promanaders, Czech music makers, Valina and much more. Saturday 26th 10am till 10pm begins with the “tapping of the keg” and Willkommen ceremony for German exchange students and Tomball host families, and official opening by the Mayor of Tomball Gretchen Fagan. The music and dancing goes all day and into the night, and at 9pm a beautiful fireworks display at Tomball's newly restored Train Depot Plaza on the festival grounds. Bicycle Rally or Fahrradreisen sponsored by Texas Wheels of Justice will be Saturday the 27th. Sunday 27th 10am till 6pm begins with German Church Service/Brother Christen Tiews of St. Louis, Mo. The Biergartens open at noon on Sunday and the celebration goes on. You are all invited to the Tomball German Heritage Festival for a really great time.

Come and enjoy the family-friendly ambience - Gemütlichkeit - of this unique music/street festival with three stages of live music and an open air market along with antique shops in the old town area. Tap your feet to the music of Chris Rybak, Alpenfest Trio, Das Ist Lustig, Tubameisters, Valina, and get into the festive spirit with the sounds of strolling Christmas carolers. This year we celebrate our Texas heritage with a Texas Music Stage featuring well known and local country music artist. An estimated 120 unique and interesting street vendors will line Market and S. Walnut Streets, selling German Christmas items, arts and crafts, and much more. Visit the “Weihnachtshaus” inside the Community Center at 221 Market Street. The German Tent and music stage will be located near 201 Market Street. The tent will house the biergarten decorated in a German theme and Christmas lights. Tables and chairs will allow you to relax with your Dunkles Bier (dark bier), or a warm cup of Glühwein. Don’t miss the traditional Dutch Santa, Elf, live Christmas tree, clowns, and Royal Bavarian Guard. The Kinderfest (kid’s area) will provide entertainment and fun for the young visitors. It includes carnival rides, bungee-jumping, rock wall, petting zoo, pony ride, bounce house, and more. Enjoy the large outdoor movie screen, a hayride, and the Christmas lights tour. Food vendors will include traditional German food and drink, Glühwein (mulled wine), beer, Christmas Stollen & Homemade Breads, Kaffee und Kuchen (coffee and pastry), Bratwurst, red cabbage, sauerkraut, apple strudel, etc., and will, also, include festival foods like funnel cake, corn dogs, hot dogs, hamburgers, kettle korn, and barbeque. Highlights of the Festival will include: The lighting of the City Christmas tree, fireworks, music on the Depot Stage, Santa’s arrival, and the dedication and unveiling of the new bronze statue of Elmer Beckendorf representing the impact of Agriculture to Tomball.
